NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara University men's basketball head coach
Chris Casey has announced the addition of
Kierell Green and
Dwayne Pow to the 2016 class.
Kierell Green | Forward | 6-foot-7 | 175 lbs | Washington, D.C. | Integrated Design & Electronics Academy
Kierell Green spent the last two seasons playing for the Integrated Design and Electronic Academy Timberwolves in Washington, D.C.
In his junior campaign, he helped IDEA to its first DC Public Charter Schools Athletic Association (DCPCSAA) championship. As a senior, Green received second team All-DC and first team all-conference honors after averaging 11.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game as the Timberwolves advanced to the semifinals of the DCPCSAA tournament.
Green has a family connection to the Niagara basketball program. His cousin Malcolm Lemmons played for the Purple Eagles from 2010-13. Green decided to attend Niagara because of the coaching staff and the family environment at Niagara University.
Green, who is the first IDEA student-athlete in any sport to earn an NCAA Division I scholarship, chose Niagara over USC-Upstate.
"Kierell has big upside in his development," Casey said. "At 6-foot-7, he can guard multiple positions and can score the ball inside and from the perimeter. He is extremely active on both ends of the floor, and we love is shot blocking ability."
Dwayne Pow | Guard | 5-foot-10 | 165 lbs | Bronx, N.Y. | Mineral Area College
Dwayne Pow played the 2014-15 season at Mineral Area College, an NJCAA program in Park Hills, Missouri.
The 2014-15 Mineral Area Cardinals, which had four future NCAA Division I players, won the program's 14
th conference championship and sixth NJCAA Region XVI championship. Pow, who averaged 9.8 points and 5.2 assists per game, was named the top freshman in Region XVI. Prior to Mineral Area, Pow attended the La Salle Academy in Manhattan where he earned Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSSA) First Team honors.
Pow spent the 2015-16 academic year attending Clarendon College in Clarendon, Texas and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Pow chose Niagara for its great academic reputation and for the resources to become successful in the classroom. Pow plans to major in psychology and would like to pursue a doctorate in psychology after playing professional basketball.
"We are excited to have Dwayne join our program," Casey said. "He will be a great addition at the point guard position. Dwayne will help us get out in transition and he has an outstanding ability to get other players shots."
