BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Niagara baseball team was defeated by Buffalo in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Game 1: Niagara 2, Buffalo 9
The Bulls (16-29) took a 1-0 lead over the Purple Eagles (16-30-1) in the first inning, but Niagara wrested the lead from them in the top of the third. With
Hayden Coll and
Nick Bernick already on base,
Tanner Kirwer singled up the middle, scoring both Coll and Bernick and earning two RBIs.
The Bulls took the lead back in the bottom of the third inning and did not relinquish it.
Kirwer went 1-for-3 at the plate and had one stolen base.
Joel Brophy also went 1-for-3 at the plate and had the Purple Eagles' only double of the game. On the mound,
Jordan Parranto (1-1) struck out two batters in his 4.0 innings pitched.
Game 2: Niagara 3, Buffalo 4
Niagara got on the board first in game two. With
Greg Cullen, who had a team-high two hits and one double, already on base,
Greg Rodgers singled up the middle, advancing to second on the throw and sending home Cullen to give the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Buffalo took a 3-1 lead over Niagara in the bottom of the third, but the Purple Eagles answered. In the top of the sixth,
Christian Vangeison singled to right field, scoring Cullen for his team-high second run of the game. With
Darian Blanks on base,
Owen Dziados singled to second base, sending Blanks home for the game-tying run.
Both teams remained scoreless in the seventh inning, sending the game into an extra inning.
Liam Stroud started on the mound, striking out three batters in 5.0 innings pitched.
Daniel Procopio (1-7) faced 11 batters in his 2.1 innings pitched and took the loss.
The Purple Eagles play next in a two-game series at Boston College on May 14-15.
