Purple Eagles Defeated By Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles baseball team lost a tough 12-1 game to Marist on Friday.

"We had a rough day today; obviously not the way you want to start a conference weekend," said head coach Rob McCoy. "We talk a lot about limiting free 90s given to the other team. Today we didn't do that on the mound or on defense. The good news is that the things we did wrong today are completely within our control to change. We will have a short memory and put all our effort into attacking hitters on the mound and playing clean defense tomorrow."

The Red Foxes (13-12, 5-2 MAAC) got off to a quick start, taking a 6-0 lead over the Purple Eagles (9-19-1, 5-2 MAAC) in the top of the first inning.

Trailing 12-0 in the bottom of the fifth, with Geoff Seto in scoring position, Tanner Kirwer flied out to left field, scoring Seto for Niagara's first and only run of the game. Kirwer earned one RBI.

Though the Purple Eagles remained scoreless for the remainder of the game, so did the Red Foxes. Tyler Howard pitched the final 3.0 innings for Niagara, striking out one batter and allowing only one hit.

The Purple Eagles close out their series with Marist in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 10.
