Purple Eagles Pick Up First Road Win At Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Purple Eagles earned their first road win of the season on Wednesday afternoon with a commanding victory over Cleveland State.

Coach's Corner
  • "It's always great to get a road win," said Niagara head coach Jada Pierce. "This team keeps getting better each time we play. I'm most proud of the defensive effort today; to hold a team almost 20 points below its average is impressive."

Game Recap
  • The first quarter was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Vikings and ended with Niagara ahead by one point, 12-11.
  • The Purple Eagles began to pull away from the Vikings in the second quarter. Morgan Baughman sank a three with a little under eight minutes remaining to keep Niagara in the lead, 17-11.
  • Corselli hit two threes within four minutes to give Niagara a comfortable lead, 27-18.
  • As time expired in the second quarter, Kaylee Stroemple made a layup. Niagara led the Vikings 33-20 going into the half.
  • The Vikings came back within 10 points of the lead in the third quarter, but the Purple Eagles kept up their offensive momentum. With three minutes remaining, Baughman made another 3-pointer to give Niagara a 43-34 advantage.
  • Corselli sank a three with a little over a minute remaining and Rampado scored two with about 30 seconds left in the third quarter to put the Purple Eagles ahead 50-34 going into the fourth quarter.
  • Corselli and Baughman both made threes within the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to put the Purple Eagles ahead of the Vikings, 56-40.
  • Two consecutive baskets from Rampado gave Niagara a twenty-point lead, 60-40, and Niagara continued to dominate the Vikings for the remainder of the game.
     
Inside the Numbers
  • Rampado led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 20 points and had a team-high six assists.
  • Rampado and Baughman had a team-best nine rebounds each. Baughman surpassed her previous rebounding career-high in the first half of the game, pulling down five first half rebounds.  
  • Corselli's 18 points are her season-high and Stroemple had a season-high 15 points.
