BRONX, N.Y. – The Niagara volleyball team was edge in three sets by the Georgetown Hoyas, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23, in its final match of the Rose Hill Classic on Saturday.
"You have to give Georgetown credit," head coach
Vilis Ozols said. "They came out and executed early and we started slowly. We're still battling some inconsistencies and we've got some specific things we will be addressing in practice this week."
Alexis Gray led Niagara with 24 assists for her fifth 20-assist match this season.
Rylee Hunt and
Rayenne Hale each had 12 digs while
Melissa McGwin led the team with seven kills.
Niagara (2-4) was nipped in all three sets by Georgetown (2-4). The Hoyas won the opening set by scoring three of the final four points. The Purple Eagles trailed 24-23 in both the second and third sets before Georgetown scored the final point in each set.
The Purple Eagles will play their final invitational next weekend when they participate in the Grand Canyon Tournament in Phoenix from Sept. 11-12 against Southern Utah, Gonzaga, Charleston Southern and Grand Canyon University.
Hunt was named to the all-tournament team. Hunt, who was also named to the Holiday Classic All-Tournament team last week, averaged 4.4 digs per set while registering double-digit digs in all three matches.
