Men's Soccer Drops Road Trip Finale at Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – At the conclusion of a three-game road stretch, the Niagara men's soccer team had a tough time mustering offense against the Siena Saints. Despite an eight-save effort Wednesday from freshman goalkeeper Colin Hanley, the Purple Eagles surrendered goals in the 78th and 82nd minutes, losing 2-0 at Siena.

In his first start since a visit to nationally-ranked Michigan State, Hanley held strong against the Siena onslaught in the opening half, denying all five of Siena's nine shots on goal. Alex Dimitriu and Sergio Lujan had shots on net in the first half, but could not find the back of the net for the Purple Eagles.

Hanley faced a number of shots again in the second half as Siena maintained pressure on Niagara through the conclusion of the contest. The Saints finally broke through with less than 12 minutes left in regulation, as Junior Rosero buried a rebound after his header attempt was denied by Hanley. Siena then deflected a Niagara clear just four minutes later and Tom Allen doubled Siena's lead.

With eight games left in MAAC play on Niagara's schedule, the Purple Eagles will face five of those opponents in the friendly confines of Niagara Field. In its last home match, Niagara ran away with a 4-0 victory over St. Bonaventure.

The Purple Eagles will look to replicate that home field success Saturday, Oct. 3 when the Quinnipiac Bobcats travel north for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.
