NU Volleyball Opens Home, MAAC Slate This Weekend

The Purple Eagles start their home schedule this weekend when two conference foes come to town. On Saturday, they face off against Fairfield at 1 p.m. and will finish the weekend off against Quinnipiac on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
  • The Purple Eagles faced off against four tough opponents in the Grand Canyon Invitational, going 1-3 on the weekend.
  • NU was resilient against Charleston Southern in a gritty performance, which saw them lose a 2-0 set lead before grabbing the win in a decisive fifth set.
  • Alexis Gray paced the team with 91 assists throughout the invitational, recording 39 in the victory over Charleston Southern.
Three Times A Charm
  • Sophomore libero Rylee Hunt was named to the all-tournament team at the Grand Canyon Invitational.
  • Hunt averaged 3.93 digs per set in the four matches while extending her streak of double-digit digs to 21 matches dating back to last season.
  • Hunt had a match-high 10 digs against Gonzaga and shared match-high honors with 23 digs versus Charleston Southern.
  • She also finished with a .951 save percentage and a .941 reception percentage.
  • Hunt has been named to the all-tournament team in all three invitationals this season.
     
Across The Net: Fairfield Stags (4-5)
·         The Purple Eagles are 9-29 all-time against the Stags.
·         Fairfield went 1-2 in its previous invitational last weekend.
·         The Stags picked up a win over Delaware State and suffered losses to Penn and Towson.
·         Leaders: kills per set – Megan Theiller (3.48), assists per set – Kiley Ligenfelter (5.76), blocks per set – Sydney Williams (1.11)
 
Across The Net: Quinnipiac Bobcats (1-9)
·         Niagara is 6-0 all-time against the Bobcats.
·         Quinnipiac went 0-3 in its previous invitational last weekend.
·         The Bobcats suffered 3 losses in their last invitational hoping to bounce back against Canisius and Niagara this weekend.
·         Leaders: kills per set – Katie Urycki (3.33), assists per set – Sierra Dawson (3.88), blocks per set – Leigh Allison (1.77)
