NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's basketball program has added its fifth signee of the season with the addition of Maurice Taylor Jr. announced on Friday.
"Maurice is an important addition to our front court," head coach
Chris Casey said. "He is physically and athletically ready to compete successfully on the major level right away. We look forward to his impact on our program."
Taylor, a 6-foot-7 versatile forward from Cambridge, Massachusetts, will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing at North Carolina A&T as a freshman during the 2013-14 season and most recently at Western Texas Community College during the 2014-15 season.
Taylor started in all 28 games for the WTC Westerners, averaging 8.0 points per game while leading the team with 6.9 rebounds per game, which were seventh in the WJCAC, en route to earning all-conference honorable mention accolades. Taylor, who made the Dean's List at A&T, played in 28 games including starting in five as a freshman for the Aggies.
Prior to A&T, Taylor was a standout player at Beaver Country Day High School in Chestnut Hill, Mass. where he helped lead the Beavers to the 2012 New Preparatory School Athletic Council Class B Championship. He was a three-year captain and earned Eastern Independent League Honorable Mention honors as a senior.
Taylor had interest from Missouri State, Lamar, Sam Houston and Abilene Christian before signing with the Purple Eagles.
"The coaching staff believes in me and are giving me the one shot I need," Taylor said. "I can also make something happen with the classroom setting."
