Emile Blackman led all scorers with a career-high 32 points as the Niagara Purple Eagles fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 91-69, on Sunday.
A week after scoring 105 points for their most points in ten seasons to defeat Quinnipiac in double overtime, the Purple Eagles (4-19, 3-11 MAAC) were held to 69 points on Sunday.
Blackman accounted for 32 of the 69 points to set a career-high as he became the first Purple Eagle to score 30-plus points this season. Blackman, celebrating his 21st birthday, scored 26 of his 32 points in the second half. Freshman
Matt Scott joined Blackman in double figures scoring with 13 points.
The Bobcats scored the game's first 10 points on their way to a 13-2 lead through the opening four minutes. Consecutive layups by
Karonn Davis and Blackman cut the lead to 13-6 before the Bobcats (13-10, 7-7 MAAC) extended their lead back to double-digits and led 36-19 at halftime.
Blackman had a stretch where he scored all 10 points in Niagara's 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 43-30 with 16:32 remaining. However, Quinnipiac responded with a run a 25-3 run over the six minutes to seize control of the game.
"Quinnipiac did a good job being ready today," head coach
Chris Casey said. "We didn't defend well early on and they shot the ball extremely well from 3's."
