Men's Basketball Returns Home To Host YSU Saturday

After a three-game road trip, the Purple Eagles are back at the Gallagher Center on Saturday to face the Youngstown State Penguins at 3 p.m.
 
Tipoff Tidbits
•  The Purple Eagles begin a three-game homestand on Saturday after going 1-2 on a three-game road trip. Niagara split a pair of games at the Mohegan Sun Arena as part of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament before nearly pulling off another  miraculous comeback before falling to the Hartford Hawks, 77-73, on Tuesday in the final game of their three-game road trip.
•  Niagara, which trailed by 21 points with 15:14 left in the game, closed the gap to 75-73 with five seconds remaining before a pair of free throws by Hartford's Jack Hobbs with four seconds on the clock effectively sealed the game.
•  Matt Scott led all scorers by tying a career-high with 23 points, including 21 in the second half, and he grabbed seven boards. Freshman Marvin Prochet set career-highs in points (19), free throws (eight), rebounds (eight), blocks (four) and minutes (31) against Hartford.
•  The Purple Eagles lost their first game of the season when having a better field goal percentage than their opponent (43.9 – 39.3 percent).
•  The Purple Eagles held Brown to a 30.7 field goal percentage which is the lowest allowed by a MAAC team this season.
•  Matt Scott ranks in the top-10 in the MAAC in points per game (18.0), rebounds per game (7.7), assists per game (3.7), steals per game (1.7) and blocks per game (1.0). Scott leads the MAAC in field goals made (34), free throws made (34), total rebounds (46) and minutes (192).
•  Niagara is looking for its first 2-0 start at home since the 2009-10 season (won three straight home games to start the season).

Scott Earns MAAC Player of the Week Honors
•  Sophomore guard Matt Scott was named MAAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week on November 23.             
•  Scott led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 17.3 points per game, in rebounding with 7.7 per game, in assists with 5.0 per game, in steals with 3.0 per game, and in free throws made with 6.3 per game.
•  He tied a career-high with 23 points and grabbed in career-high 10 rebounds en route to picking up his first career double-double against Brown.
Against Vermont, Scott scored 18 points to share team-high honors, and had a team-high seven rebounds to lead the team in scoring and rebounding for the fourth straight game.
•  In the Purple Eagles' comeback win over North Carolina A&T in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament Springfield Bracket Consolation game on Sunday, Scott scored 11 points, had a game and career-high five steals and had a career-high seven assists with the final one leading to the game-winning basket with two seconds remaining in the game.
 
Block Party
•  The Purple Eagles' eight blocks against Hartford are the most since having eight against Central Connecticut in the 2011-12 season opener.
• Four Purple Eagles had at least one block, led by Marvin Prochet who had four blocks for the most by a Purple Eagle since Joe Thomas had four versus Siena on Dec. 6, 2013.
 
On The Court
Youngstown State Penguins (2-4/0-0 Horizon League)
•  The Penguins are led by senior Bobby Hain who leads the team in scoring (16.5) and in rebounding (7.3)
•  Hain is now in the top 30 in scoring all time for Youngstown State.
•  Hain, Cameron Morse, Matt Donlan, and Francisco Santiago all average double digit points per game this season.
•  After losing their first four games, the Penguins have won two straight entering Saturday's game.
 
Against the Penguins (Niagara leads 7-5)
•  Niagara and Youngstown have met twelve times, but haven't met since the 2003-04 season.
•  The Purple Eagles have won the last three meetings.
