Volleyball Hosts Saint Peter’s, Rider

The Purple Eagles (10-16, 7-9 MAAC) wrap up the 2015 regular season with two crucial matches which will determine a spot in the 2015 MAAC Tournament. Niagara hosts Saint Peter's on Saturday, Nov. 14 and Rider on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Last Time Out
  • After winning three straight matches, the Purple Eagles have lost three consecutive matches.
 
Chasing A Spot For MAACs
  • Niagara currently holds the sixth and final spot in the MAAC Tournament with a 7-9 conference record.
  • The Purple Eagles, Canisius and Iona are all competing for the final spot. Canisius is 7-9 and Iona is 6-10.
  • Niagara holds the head-to-head tie breaker with Canisius and split with Iona this season. If all three teams finish with an 8-10 record, NU holds the tie breaker in the "mini-conference".

  • Rylee Hunt averages 5.22 digs per set, which is first in the MAAC and ranks her 16th nationally
  • Alexis Gray averages 0.47 service aces per set, which is second best in the MAAC and ranks her 12th nationally.
  • Niagara as a team ranks third in the MAAC and 34th in the nation with in aces per set average of 1.56, behind Manhattan (2.02) which leads the nation.

  • On November 1, Rylee Hunt became the newest member of the 1,000-dig club.
 
Record Watch:
  • Melissa McGwin is currently fourth all-time in solo blocks at 78 for her career, four behind Jessica Anderson (1992-'95) for third place.
  • McGwin also has 201 block assists for her career, currently fifth best and four behind Kelly Cruttenden (1994-'97) for fourth.
  • Alexis Gray has 48 services aces on the season, which is 4th best in Purple Eagle history. She is two aces away from tying Jessica Piscitelli's 1991 season mark of 50, for third place.

Across The Net: Saint Peter's Peacocks (4-21, 2-13 MAAC) 
  • Niagara is 18-22 all-time against Saint Peter's, including a win in straight sets back on October 18th of this year
  • The Peacocks rank seventh in the MAAC in blocks per set average of 1.71
  • Amanda Columbo is ninth in the MAAC with a 0.34 aces per set average
  • Leaders: kills per set – Lauren Behrens (2.90), assists per set – Kaitlyn Sitton (7.31), blocks per set – Marlena Budna (1.01)
 
Across The Net: Rider Broncs (14-10, 10-4 MAAC) 
  • Niagara is 18-11 all-time against the Broncs, including a loss to Rider back on October 17th.
  • Rider is first in the MAAC and second Nationally with a dig per set average of 17.72
  • Emily Aldaya is second in the MAAC with a 4.97 dig per set average, and first with 596 total digs.
  • Kaitlyn Griffin has 120 total blocks for the Broncs, which is first in the MAAC.
  • Leaders: kills per set -- Hailey Riede (2.58) assists per set – Veronica Koval (5.30), blocks per set – Kaitlynn Griffin (1.00)
