Fairfield Drops Men's Soccer on Senior Day

NIAGARA UNIV., NY – A 30th minute free kick tally lifted the Fairfield Stags (6-5-6, 5-3-2 MAAC) over the Niagara Purple Eagles (1-15-3, 0-9-1 MAAC) in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Niagara Field.

The Stags' Ryan Perkins took advantage of a free kick just outside the box and sent in a far shot from the left side of the goal, with the ball sneaking through a pile of players untouched and bending just inside the right post for the only goal of the contest.

Niagara goalkeeper Joel Gerberich recorded two saves, Alex Dimitriu led the Purple Eagles with three total shots and Andrew Ferguson had Niagara's only shot on goal in the third minute of play.

Before the match, Niagara honored the careers of its five seniors. Ferguson, Kevin Garcia, Ryan Myers, Tim Magnusson and Zachary Newton were recognized for their contributions to Niagara men's soccer with a pregame ceremony on the field.

With the conclusion of the regular season, the Purple Eagles head down to Orlando, Florida for the MAAC Championship Tournament. Niagara begins tournament play on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 11:00 a.m. against the sixth-seeded team, which remains to be determined.
