HAMDEN, Conn. – The Niagara women's soccer team improved to 4-0-0 in the MAAC with a convincing 4-0 win at Quinnipiac on Saturday.
A pair of goals in each half propelled the Purple Eagles (6-3-2, 4-0-0 MAAC) to their longest win streak since the 2010 season.
"We fought through some adversity today with the weather and field conditions, but overall we played well," head coach
Peter Veltri said. "At times we looked outstanding and really created some good chances to score. I was happy seeing (Haillie) Price continue to score and it was great to see Laura (Ortiz) and Eva (Bachman) find the back of the net as well."
Niagara scored its two first half goals in a 62-second span.
Laura Ortiz scored the opener after a collecting a pass from
Amanda Gallo and turning her defender in the box, and then calmly slotting the ball to the corner in the 35th minute.
Haillie Price scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season 62 seconds later.
Kori Thorne played a thru ball to Price who finished far post.
Set pieces provided the Purple Eagles' next two goals. Ortiz notched her third goal of the season in the 64th minute on a penalty kick, while Eva Bachman curled home a free kick from outside of the box in the 83rd minute.
The NU defense notch its fourth shutout of the season with keepers
Claire Feiertag (three saves in 82:45) and
Shangyne Samuels (one save in 7:15) sharing the honors.
The Purple Eagles are back on the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 10 against Manhattan at Niagara Field at 1 p.m.
