JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Niagara University volleyball team jumped back into the win column with a sweep of Saint Peter's, 25-19, 25-11, 25-23, on Sunday.

Vilis Ozols said. "I thought they kept up the offensive and defensive intensity and that really made a difference today. Both Eddie (
Taylor Edmonds) and Mel (McGwin) had great matches and that was a result of passing and setting that allowed them to attack so efficiently."
The Purple Eagles (7-13, 4-5 MAAC) had their most offensively efficient match of the season. Niagara had a season-high .326 attacking percentage to go along with a season-high for assists in three sets with 39.
Melissa McGwin led the Purple Eagles in kills for the second consecutive match with 13;
Taylor Edmonds added seven kills while
Nicole Matheis and
Alex Stone chipped in six.
Alexis Gray had a match-high 32 assists and had 11 digs to share match-high honors with teammate Matheis; Gray has collected a double-double in five straight matches.
Rylee Hunt's streak of double-digit digs ended at 28 as she had eight digs in the match.
The opening set was close throughout as there were 11 ties and eight lead changes. Leading 16-15, the Purple Eagles went on a 7-1 spurt to break open the set. The Purple Eagles had little trouble in the second set. The Purple Eagles had a season-best .682 hitting percentage behind 16 kills and a 91 sideout percentage. Niagara scored the last seven points of the set to take a 2-0 lead. The third set was back-and-forth. Saint Peter's (3-16, 1-8 MAAC) led 22-20 before Niagara ended the match on a 5-1 run behind two McGwin kills and two aces by Matheis.
Niagara returns home to welcome Manhattan on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Iona on Sunday at 1 p.m.
