Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Niagara Stymied by Saint Peter's in 1-0 Loss

NIAGARA UNIV., NY – In a game that featured few quality scoring opportunities, only one goal was scored between the Niagara and Saint Peter's men's soccer teams. That goal was scored by the Peacocks, who extended the Purple Eagles' winless streak to eight games with a 1-0 loss Saturday afternoon at Niagara Field.

An errant header by the Niagara defense set up Louis Mobbs of Saint Peter's with a breakaway chance in front of Purple Eagles goalkeeper Colin Hanley. Mobbs placed the ball low to the far side, and the shot just escaped the grasp of Hanley as the Peacocks earned a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Hanley surrendered that tally from Mobbs on the only shot on net he faced in the first half. Saint Peter's generated much more offense in the second half, as Hanley saw three of eight shots from the Peacocks directed on net and each one of those was turned away.

Niagara's best chance of the afternoon came from Jordy Robins, whose high shot to the short side against Saint Peter's keeper Jamie Cleland was deflected over the net. Saint Peter's finished the game with a 10-2 advantage in overall shots.

Four games remain on the schedule for the Purple Eagles, and next Wednesday features possibly the biggest matchup of the season. Niagara's men's soccer team heads to Canisius College for its annual Battle of the Bridge matchup with the Golden Griffins. The rivalry showdown kicks off Wed. Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
