Women’s Soccer To Face Canisius Wednesday

The Niagara women's soccer team continues conference play with a road match against archrival Canisius on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. This game is also the first contest in the Battle of the Bridge competition between the two schools.

How to Catch the Game
  • Live stats and live video will be provided by the home team.
  • Wednesday's night game will also be broadcast by Time Warner Cable SportsNet via tape-delay. The game will air on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m.

Purple Eagles 101
  • Following their 4-1 win over Quinnipiac on Sept. 27, the Purple Eagles are 5-1-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the MAAC.
  • NU is tied with Manhattan for first place with four points.
  • The four goals scored against the Bobcats are the most goals scored this season. The last time the team scored four or more goals was back on Oct. 14, 2012 in a 7-0 win against Saint Peter's.
  • This is the best start through nine games since 2008 (6-2-1).
  • Niagara is 3-0-2 in its last five games with the wins coming against Binghamton, Robert Morris and Quinnipiac.
  • Senior Haillie Price leads the team with four goals on the year, with three of those being game winners.
  • Junior Hayley Besaw leads the Purple Eagles with five assists on the season.
  • Freshman Eva Bachmann has chipped in with two goals on the year, while Besaw, seniors Catherine Meyer, Courtney Pierce and Kiley Titus, as well as junior Bianca Marrara have all contributed a goal on the year.
  • Junior goalkeeper Claire Feiertag has logged a career-high four solo shutouts on the year, coming against Drexel, Duquesne, Cleveland State and Robert Morris.
  • Also contributing to the team's success on the year, is the defensive presence of redshirt senior Danielle Kennedy, senior Maureen Papaconstantinou and sophomore Amanda Gallo.

In the Conference
  • Besaw is tops in the conference in assists (5) assists per game (0.56).
  • Price's three game winning goals are good for second in the MAAC. The Ancaster, Ont. native's game-winning goals came in the team's season-opening 3-1 victory at St. Bonaventure on Aug. 27, the 2-1 win over Binghamton on Sept. 12 and the 1-0 triumph over Robert Morris on Sept. 18.
  • Feiertag's is tied for first in the MAAC with four shutouts on the year. The Ridgeway, Ont. native also leads the conference with a 0.61 goals against average.

On the Pitch: Canisius Golden Griffins (2-9-0, 1-1-0 MAAC)
  • The Purple Eagles lead the all-time series 21-12-2.
  • Since 2002, Niagara is 9-1-2 against Canisius and hasn't lost at Canisius since 2001 (4-0-1 in the last five visits).
  • On the season, the Golden Griffins have a 2-9-0 overall record and a 1-1-0 record in MAAC play.
  • Canisius' most recent outing saw them victorious over Monmouth, 3-2.
  • Canisius will host the Purple Eagles while sporting a 2-3-0 home record on the year.
  • Last season's Battle of the Bridge game saw Niagara defeat Canisius 1-0 on Monteagle Ridge.
