Box Score SYRACUSE, NY – The Niagara Purple Eagles dropped to 1-3 on the season after closing the holiday weekend with a 3-1 loss the Syracuse Orange on Sunday afternoon.

Nicole Matheis also finished with 10 kills apiece.
The Purple Eagles (1-2) dropped the first two sets 25-16 and 25-21, but continued to fight their way to a 25-14 thumping to take the third set to cut the deficit to two sets to one. Mathis had four kills in that third set with McGwin adding three of her own. Syracuse (2-1) was able to close out the win, however, with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set.
Niagara opens up the Gallagher Center for the 2014 season next weekend with the 2014 Purple Eagles Invitational. They take on both Providence and West Virginia next Friday before taking on Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
