Purple Eagles To Face Bonnies In Big 4 Classic Doubleheader

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's basketball team will play the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at the First Niagara Center in downtown Buffalo on Saturday, Nov. 29 as part of the Big 4 Classic doubleheader with the Buffalo Bulls and Canisius Golden Griffins.

Niagara and Bona will pay at 2 p.m., followed by UB and Canisius at 4:15 p.m. The date will mark the fourth time all four schools have played a basketball doubleheader in the building downtown and the first time since Dec. 12, 1998.

Tickets for the Big 4 Basketball Classic start at $20, with floor seats costing $30. One ticket is good for both games. Fans can purchase tickets through Tickets.com, at the First Niagara Center Box Office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., or charge by phone at 1-888-223-6000.

Niagara will play in the First Niagara Center for the second straight season. The Purple Eagles defeated Davidson, 83-72, on Dec. 11, 2013 in game one of the Big 4 Doubleheader to improve to 13-11 all-time at the FNC.

The Niagara/St. Bonaventure series dates back to the 1920-21 season. NU trails in the all-time series, 85-68, but have won eight of the last 11 meetings.The teams will play on a neutral court for only the third time in the 153 previous meetings between the programs and the second time in three years. The only previous meeting at the First Niagara Center between the teams was on Dec. 12, 1998 which saw Bona down Niagara, 70-61. The second neutral court encounter was on Nov. 24, 2012 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y. NU fell 80-75 in a game dubbed as the Thanksgiving Throwdown.

Niagara will have one of the youngest teams in the nation as it returns four players from last season's team, including forward Ramone Snowden (8.1 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game) and guard Wesley Myers (6.7 points per game, 2.8 rebounds per game).
