NIAGARA UNIV, N.Y. – The Niagara men's basketball team closed out 2014 with a complete team performance on its way to a 65-47 win over the Albany Great Danes on Tuesday.

The Purple Eagles (2-8) ended their seven-game losing streak in emphatic fashion with their largest win in the Chris Casey era and largest since a 23-point win over Siena on Jan. 17, 2013. NU had season-highs in 3-pointers (11), 3-point field goal percentage (50 percent) and in free throw percentage (75 percent) while holding Albany (5-7) to 47 points, which are the fewest the program has allowed since UCF scored 46 in a Niagara win on Nov. 21, 2009.

Ramone Snowden and Wesley Myers shared game-high honors with 17 points; Myers set a new career-high while Snowden set a season-high. Rayvon Harris chipped in with 12 points. On the boards, Niagara outrebounded Albany, 37-27, for its largest rebounding margin of the season. Harris had a game-high and season-high eight rebounds, while Emile Blackman and James Suber each had season-highs six rebounds.

The Purple Eagles opened the game with three straight 3-pointers – two by Blackman and one by Snowden – to take a 9-0 lead after two minutes. The Purple Eagles led 11-4 before Albany took a 15-14 lead with 8:35 left in the half which remained a one possession game to halftime with NU leading 27-25.

"I thought we played a very good second half, particularly defensively," head coach Chris Casey said. "I thought in the first half we had a couple of tough turnovers and open looks that we didn't make and (we) were frustrated for not making them, but what we kept doing was defending and rebounding, and we came out in the second half and made those looks."

Niagara seized control of the game early in the second half en route to scoring its most points (38) in the second half this season while allowing the fewest (22). After the Great Danes tied the game at 27-27 23 seconds into the half, Niagara drained five straight pointers. Karonn Davis made the first one, before Snowden reeled off four straight to build a 42-30 lead at the 14:12 mark. Snowden ended the game with a career-high five 3-pointers for the most by a Purple Eagle this season.

The Purple Eagles continued to pour it on as they lead as much as 23 points in the second half.

"We stretched it (lead) in the second half with some timely shooting, which we have been putting a lot of work in, so it's good to see the guys get some payback with the work they have been putting in," Casey added.

Niagara continues its homestand by stepping back into MAAC action this weekend beginning against Manhattan on Friday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.  For ticket information, contact 716-286-8499.
