Hockey Dominates In 6-1 Win Over Army

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Dan Kolenda and Robert Angiolella both scored a pair of goals and Isaac Kohls finished with three points as the floodgates opened for the Niagara Purple Eagles who topped the Army Black Knights 6-1 on Saturday night at Dwyer Arena.

Niagara (3-9-0; 3-5-0 AHA) got the party started within the first few minutes for the second time in back-to-back nights. This time it was Hugo Turcotte who put the home team on the board first with a tally just over three minutes into the game. It was the first of three goals in the opening period as Angiolella and Kolenda would increase the Purple Eagles' lead to 3-0 by the end of the frame.

The lead would increase to 5-0 over a 90-second stretch in the second. Kolenda scored the second of his back-to-back goals at the 11:30 mark before Kohls scored his third of the season at 12:53. The lone Army (3-8-2; 3-7-2 AHA) goal came with just over five minutes left in the second to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Angiolella added an insurance goal while the Purple Eagles were on the man advantage and Jackson Teichroeb made 13 saves in the third period to give NU its third win in-a-row with the 6-1 victory.

Teichroeb has been between the pipes for each win of the streak and made 27 saves on 28 shots to earn the win on Saturday. Kohls added assists on the bookend goals, Turcotte's opening tally and Angiolella's final goal, to skate away with a game-high three points. Assists from TJ Sarcona and Stanislav Dzakhov gave them two points in as many games since joining the lineup.

Niagara's power-play unit went 1-for-4 with the man advantage and the penalty kill unit went a perfect 5-for-5. NU outshot the Black Knights 34-28.

The Purple Eagles will have a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and will be back on the ice on Friday, Dec. 5 when they host Holy Cross at 7:00 p.m.
