Volleyball Downs Quinnipiac In Regular Season Finale

Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. - Four Purple Eagles registered double-digit kills as they closed out their regular season with a 25-23, 25-18, 24-26, 25-19 win over the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday. 

Senior Amanda Sedore had a match-high 17 kills, freshman Nicole Matheis and sophomore Alex Stone each had 11 kills, and junior Melissa McGwin had 10. Two Purple Eagles had double-doubles - Matheis (11 kills and 14 digs) and Alexis Gray (match-high 45 assists and 11 digs). Rylee Hunt had a match-best 28 digs. 

"We ran into a spirited Bobcat squad who played us tough to the final point on their home court," head coach Vilis Ozols said. "They sent their seniors out with a strong effort. Our team executed well and wrestled the momentum back several times by executing at key times."

Niagara (13-16, 9-9 MAAC) slipped past Quinnipiac (2-29, 0-18 MAAC) in the first set and used a 9-2 run in the second set to seize control on its way to taking a 2-0 lead. The Bobcats would force a fourth set by edging the Purple Eagles 26-24 in the third set. NU led 15-11 in the fourth set before Quinnipiac cut the lead to 20-19. A kill by Sedore sparked a 5-0 run to the end the match as the Purple Eagles improved to 6-0 all-time in the series. 

The Purple Eagles will be the sixth seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports HP Field House in Orlando, Fla. Niagara will face third-seeded Manhattan on Thursday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. which will air on ESPN3.
