NU Visits Fairfield, Quinnipiac In Regular-Season Finales

The Purple Eagles wrap up their regular season with a weekend trip to Connecticut to take on the Fairfield Stags on Saturday, Nov. 15 and the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday, Nov. 16. Both matches are scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Purple Points
  • Last weekend saw the team split their home stand with a 3-0 sweep over first place Marist before falling 3-1 to second place Siena.
  • The Purple Eagles finished their home schedule with a 7-5 record in all matches.
  • Freshmen Alexis Gray earned her third MAAC Rookie of the Week award after posting 11.43 assists per game.
  • Niagara is 6-4 in their last 10 matches, with victories over Iona (3-0), Quinnipiac (3-0), Canisius (3-0), Iona (3-2), Saint Peter's (3-1) and Marist (3-0).
  • Niagara's .349 hitting percentage on Oct. 22 against Canisius is a season-high while its nine blocks are the most in a three-set match and the seven aces are the second most in a three-set match this season.
  • Niagara had 75 digs against Fairfield (Oct. 19) for the most in a four-set match this season.
  • The Purple Eagles feel comfortable going to the 5th and deciding set. On the year, Niagara is 4-2 in 5-set matches.

MAAC Tournament On The Horizon
  • The 2014 MAAC Championships will be held from Thursday, Nov. 20 to Saturday, Nov. 22 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando. 10 teams will participate
  • NU currently sits in sixth place. One win this weekend would lock up the sixth seed for the Purple Eagles and they would play the No. 3 seed on Thursday at 2 p.m. on ESPN3.

Purple Eagles In The MAAC
  • Niagara is second in the conference with an average of 1.58 service aces per set.
  • Freshmen Rylee Hunt (0.38) and Nicole Matheis (0.35) and third and sixth respectively in service ace percentage.
  • Freshman Alexis Gray, the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, is third in the conference with an average of 9.48 assists per set.
  • Sophomore Alex Stone sits at fourth in the MAAC with 1.11 blocks per set.
  • Freshman Rayenne Hale's .611 attack percentage on Oct. 18 against Quinnipiac is good for fourth best in the conference on the year.
  • Gray's 54 assists at Colgate are the tied for the fifth-most by a MAAC player this season.
  • Senior Allison Reis' 35 digs on Aug. 29 at Colgate and Hunt's 33 digs at Rider on Nov. 2 are good for third and fourth most by a MAAC player on the year.
  • Hunt, Matheis (6 each at Delaware State) and Hale (6 at Rider) are tied for the most aces in a single match by any MAAC player on the season.
  • Stone's 10 total blocks (1-9) at Manhattan are tied for the second-most by a MAAC play on the year and her nine total blocks (4-5) versus Gardner-Webb is third amongst MAAC players this season.

Purple Eagles In The NCAA
  • Niagara is 15th in the nation in total aces (164) and 22nd in the nation in aces per set (1.58).
  • Rylee Hunt ranks 30th in the nation in total aces (39) and 57th in the nation in aces per set (.38).
  • Nicole Matheis is 54th in aces (36).
  • Alexis Gray, who leads the MAAC in assists, is 84th in the nation.
  • Alex Stone, who leads the MAAC in blocks, is 58th in the nation.

Entering the Record Books
  • Senior Allison Reis sits at fifth all-time in career digs at Niagara with 1,270.
  • Melissa McGwin is eight solo blocks away from making the top-5 in career blocks. She currently has 58.
  • Alexis Gray's 986 assists on the year puts her eighth on the single season record list.
  • Rylee Hunt needs 13 digs to reach the top-10 in the single-season digs list.
  • Hunt and Nicole Matheis need two and four aces, respectively, to join the top-10 single-season aces list.

Across the Net: Fairfield Stags (15-11, 11-5 MAAC, 4th Place)
  • Niagara trails 28-9 in the all-time series between the two schools.
  • The Purple Eagles fell to the Stags 3-1 in the first meeting of the year on Oct. 19.
