POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles fell short on the road with a 3-0 loss to the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Foxes (8-5-4; 4-3-2 MAAC) were first on the board when they converted a free kick from just outside the box in the ninth minute then extended their lead to 2-0 in the 12
th minute. Niagara (5-10-2; 2-5-1 MAAC) had a pair of shots between the 18
th and 30
th minutes, but the game went into half with the Purple and White trailing 2-0.
The second half featured six shots from Niagara before Marist was able to increase its lead in the 81
st minute when a pass across the goalmouth found its way into an open net to give the hosts a 3-0 win.
Callum Willmott led the team with three shots while all three of
Julian Ekeze,
Kyle Moraldo, and
Nicholas Watson had two apiece.
Kevin Garcia was forced to start in goal again in place of an injured
Steve Casey and made three saves through the 90 minutes. Both teams finished with 10 shots and NU had the edge in corner kicks, 9-2.
Niagara returns home for the final two games of the regular season, beginning with Saturday's matchup against the Manhattan Jaspers. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will feature a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
