NIAGARA UNIV, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles dropped a 5-0 decision to the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday afternoon at Niagara Field.
The Purple Eagles (5-11-2; 2-6-1 MAAC) collected six shots throughout the opening 45 minutes, but found itself down 4-0 heading into halftime. The Jaspers (2-11-2; 1-7-1 MAAC) scored three goals in a six-minute span in the opening half to take a 3-0 lead by the 15
th minute. They added their fourth tally with just over a minute to play in the first before adding their fifth and final goal in the 63
rd minute.
Jack Welsh and
Jacob Ohlin led the team with two shots apiece. Steve Casey took the loss. Kevin Garcia made one save in the final 16 minutes after coming off the bench in relief.
A ceremony was held before the game to honor the seven graduating seniors on the 2014 squad. The class included Welsh, Ohlin,
Roberto Fernandez-Andersson,
Michael Hanton,
Daniel Ulicny,
Kyle Moraldo, and
Callum Willmott.
The Purple Eagles end the season at home on Wednesday when they host Battle of the Bridge rival Canisius at 7:00 p.m. A win would successfully defend the Buffalo Shield and make the Purple Eagles the first team to win and hold it wire-to-wire.
