VESTAL, N.Y. - The Niagara women's soccer team battled, but suffered a 3-1 loss to the Binghamton Bearcats on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Niagara falls to 0-6 overall on the season, while the Bearcats improved to 4-1 on the year.
I was proud of the effort that we put worth today," head coach
Peter Veltri said. "We were really banged up going into today's game, but the girls fought through it and had a chance to win when it was tied at one. At times today we were the dominate team. We just need to finish our opportunities."
The opening 12 minutes of the contest saw a trio of goals to pull the Bearcats ahead 2-1. Binghamton shot out to an early lead in the third minute as Stephani Church received a cross from Emma Kurth and sent it past Niagara goalkeeper
Claire Feiertag.
Breanna Catipovic helped the Purps pull even four minutes later as
Danielle Kennedy served in a corner kick that was settled by
Kori Thorne before finding the senior forward for her third goal of the season; however the Bearcats regained the lead in the 12th minute off the foot of Church for the eventual game-winner. Emily Nuss added a late goal in the second half to solidify the victory.
Feiertag wrapped up the afternoon with a season-high six saves.
