NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles were swept by the Marist Red Foxes, 25-18, 25-13, 25-13, on Sunday to conclude their home opening weekend.
Niagara (1-14, 0-4 MAAC) was unable to slow down a strong attack by Marist (9-5, 3-1 MAAC), which finished with the third highest percentage (.333) Niagara has allowed all season. The Red Foxes pulled away from the Purple Eagles midway through the opening set, but held comfortable leads in the second and third sets.
Amanda Sedore led Niagara in kills with seven and added 10 digs;
Allison Reis led NU with 11 digs.
Emily Hopkins finished with 22 assists, for her eighth 20-plus assists match of the season and fourth straight.
Niagara heads to Buffalo on Wednesday to face archrival Canisius at 7 p.m. in the first Battle of the Bridge contest of the season.
