Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Niagara women's soccer team was held scoreless by Marist, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Red Foxes on Wednesday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.

With the loss the Purple Eagles dropped to 1-9-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in conference play, while the Red Foxes now own a 4-4-2 overall record and 2-0-0 MAAC mark.

"We battled hard today, and almost tied it with a few minutes to play," head coach Peter Veltri said.  "I thought defensively we were solid again. We will tweak a few things for this weekend's game and be ready to go."

The opening 45 minutes saw limited opportunities for both teams, as Marist held a 6-1 advantage in shots, and the squads went into half scoreless.

The Red Foxes finally got on the board 22 minutes into the second half and it was the only goal needed for Marist to steal the victory from NU.  Alycia Cartica sent in a cross to Rycke Guiney who drilled home an upper right corner shot just outside the 18-yard box.

The Purps continued to battle and almost tied the game in the 84th minute as Kiley Titus took a close range shot that was saved by Marist goalkeeper Andrea Wicks to preserve the victory for the Red Foxes.

Niagara finished the contest with three shots, compared to 14 for the Red Foxes.  Marist and Niagara each had five corner kick opportunities.   NU goalkeeper Claire Feiertag finished with three saves in 90 minutes of action for the Purple Eagles.

Niagara returns to Monteagle Ridge on Saturday, Sept. 28 to host the Manhattan Jaspers at 1 p.m. at Niagara Field.
