Soccer to Face Marist, Manhattan This Week

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's soccer team continues conference play this week in a match at Marist and at home versus Manhattan.  The Purple Eagles travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on the Red Foxes Wednesday at 1 p.m. before hosting the Jaspers Saturday at 1 p.m.

Purple Eagles 101
The Purple and White are coming off a close 1-0 loss to Monmouth this past Saturday to drop the team to a 1-8-0 overall mark and a 0-1-0 MAAC record. 

Three different Purple Eagles have found the back of the net this season, with Breanna Catipovic's five goals leading the way.  Haillie Price and Haillie Price are not far behind, with three goals between the two of them in the opening nine games.  Meyer and Kori Thorne have been the key playmakers on the squad with two assists each. 

Claire Feiertag has played a majority of the minute sin goal for Niagara, making 39 saves and allowing 14 goals.  She has posted a .736 save percentage and a 1.84 goals-against average.

Scouting Marist
Marist enters Wednesday's match with a 3-4-2 record, including a 2-0-1 mark at home.  Last game, the team won a 1-0 contest to the Manhattan Jaspers in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for their first  conference victory of the year.

Junior Amanda Epstein leads the Red Foxes this season with 10 points on three goals and four assists, while Samantha Panzer (3-3-9) and Alycia Cartica (3-2-8) have also provided offense.   The team has been backstopped by Andrea Wicks in net, as the junior has made 42 saves for a .792 save percentage and a 1.18 goals-against average.

All-Time Against the Red Foxes
The Purple Eagles hold a slim 10-9-1 lead over Marist in the all-time series which dates back to 1996.  Last season the team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Red Foxes on Sept. 20 at Monteagle Ridge despite grabbing an early 1-0 lead off the foot of Catherine Meyer.  Feiertag finished the game with four saves.

Taking a Look at Manhattan
The Jaspers have posted a 3-6 record, while dropping their first MAAC game, 1-0 to Marist this past weekend.  Manhattan will
face Iona on Wednesday, Sept. 25 before making its way to Niagara University.

The team is led by Janie Schlauder, who has posted eight points over the team's first nine matches off three goals and two assists.  Manhattan has also received contributions from Erica Modena (3-1-7), and Aislinn McIlvenny and Martine Diamond who have each pocked four points.

The Jaspers have platooned two goaltenders this season, with Kristen Skonieczny seeing the bulk of the action.  In 632:55, she has allowed seven goals while making 35 saves for a 1.00 goals-against average and a .833 save percentage.

All-Time vs. the Jaspers
The Purps leads the all-time series against the Jaspers, 13-5-3.  The last time these two teams met was on Oct. 12, 2012 when NU scored a late second half goal to come out with a 1-0 victory over the Jaspers.   

Up Next for NU
The Battle of the Bridge series will continue on Oct. 2 as the Purple Eagles host the Canisius Golden Griffins at Niagara Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
