STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Niagara Purple Eagles concluded play at the Bulldog Invitational with defeats to Wofford (25-23, 25-11, 25-17) and Mississippi State on Saturday in their last in-season tournament.
"The team came out and played hard today," head coach Vilis Ozols said. "They improved significantly over yesterday and made key adjustments."

Niagara's best set of the entire day occurred in the opening set of the first match. The Purple Eagles (0-10) contested point-for-point against the Terriers (4-6) and was tied at 23-23 before Wofford scored two straight points to win the set.
NU never recovered from the narrow setback in the first set. The Purple Eagles got off to sluggish starts in the second (trailed 8-1) and the third (trailed 6-2) sets and were unable to dig themselves out of the early deficit.
Amanda Sedore led the team in kills for the seventh straight match by registering 10 kills for her fifth double-digit kills match of the season. Chelsea Watson led the team in hitting percentage .500 with four kills on eight attacks. Allison Reis led the match with 16 digs.

Freshman Alex Stone finished with a career-best eight kills and .273 hitting percentage to lead the Purple Eagles as they fell to the host in the nightcap of the tournament.
NU fell behind 6-1 in the first set, but tied the match at 10-10 on a kill by Stone. The Bulldogs (7-4) would proceed to go on a 13-0 run and would win the set 25-15. MSU took the second set 25-15 and the third 25-17 to go unbeaten in its tournament.
Sedore and Stone were both named to the Bulldog Invitational All-Tournament Team. Sedore led the team with 2.33 kills per set and added 2.17 digs per set; this is the third straight invitational that Sedore has been named to the all-tournament. Stone's career-high match against the Bulldogs buoyed her to the team. She finished with 1.67 kills per set and had a .194 hitting percentage.
Niagara will be looking for its first win of the season with it opens MAAC play next weekend at Rider and Saint Peter's.
