Purple Eagles Blanked by the University of South Florida

Box Score

TAMPA – The Niagara women's soccer team finished the USF Tournament with a 3-0 loss to the University of South Florida Bulls on Sunday afternoon at Corbett Stadium.

"We played a very good opponent today and it took two top notch goals to beat us," head  coach Peter Veltri said.  "The team fought hard and competed well for 90 minutes today despite injuries and the Florida heat.  This type of game really show the positive character that we have on this team."

The opening 45 minutes saw the Purple Eagles (0-4-0) fall behind by a pair of goals to the Bulls (2-0-2).  USF got on the board first in the 24th minute off the foot of Victoria Abnathy with the assist credited to Jordyn Listro.  The Bull's second tally came 11 minutes later as Anezha Blount gave USF a two-goal cushion heading into the half.

The Bulls solidified the game in the final ten minutes of play as Cris Granados Gomez secured her first goal of the season.

Purple Eagles goalkeeper Olivia Wood wrapped up the contest with seven saves.

Niagara returns home on Sunday, Sept. 6 in a non-conference matchup against Ohio University at 7 p.m.
