Purple Eagles Flock South To Face Northwestern State Saturday

The Niagara Purple Eagles continue their six-game road trip when they visit the Northwestern State Demons on Saturday for a 4 p.m. eastern tip.

Niagara's road swing has had stops in northeast Ohio (Kent) and in southeast Pennsylvania (Philadelphia). The Purple Eagles (1-5) now head south for games in Louisiana (Northwestern State) and Arkansas (Arkansas State) before returning to Western New York for a home MAAC weekend.

Saturday's matchup pits two teams in search of halting losing streaks. The Purple Eagles have lost four straight while the Demons (2-3) have lost three straight. In last season's meeting, Niagara shut down one of the highest scoring teams in the nation, while also scoring 63 second half points, in a 92-76 win which snapped NSU's nine-game winning streak.

Tipoff Tidbits
• Antoine Mason LEADS the nation in scoring with 31.3 points per contest and has scored at least 30 points in five of six games this season.
• Niagara LEADS the MAAC in scoring with 81.8 points per game and second in turnover margin at +2.17.
• Freshman Ramone Snowden set career-highs in scoring in consecutive games last week. Snowden scored 16 against Western Carolina before pouring in 21 vs. Kent State.
• Wesley Myers scored a career-high nine points at Penn. Myers was one of two players with nine points (Ramone Snowden) against the Quakers.
• Mason had a team-best seven rebounds at Penn which were a season-high.
• Marvin Jordan became the 44th member of Niagara's 1,000-point club on Nov. 21 in Niagara's game versus USC Upstate. Jordan made his 219th career 3-pointer to reach 1,000 points. Jordan moved into sole possession of second place in career 3-pointers against Western Carolina, passing Lorenzo Miles (220).

• Antione Mason is LEADING the nation in scoring at 31.3 points per game.
• Mason has five 30-point games this season, including the last four games.

• Antoine Mason is on the verge of cracking the top-20 all-time scorers list at Niagara.
• Mason, which started the season 38th on the list, is currently 22nd and is 16 points away from moving ahead of Mark Henry ('89) for 20th all-time.

Northwestern State Demons (2-3, 0-0 Southland)

• Northwestern State is 2-3 on the season, but has lost three straight entering Saturday's game.
• Four Demons are averaging in double figures scoring, led by Jalan West (17.2 ppg).
• NSU ranks in the top-10 in the nation in two defensive categories. The Demons are second in turnovers per game (20.2) and sixth in steals per game (11.0)

Against The Demons (Niagara leads, 1-0)
• Niagara and Northwestern State met for the first time in last season's Ramada WorldWide BracketBusters on ESPN3 at the Gallagher Center.
• The Purple Eagles dominated the contest, winning 92-76.

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The dynamic duo of Juan'ya Green and Antoine Mason led a second half offensive surge as the Niagara Purple Eagles pulled away from the Northwestern State Demons, 92-76, in the 11th annual Ramada WorldWide BracketBusters on Saturday on ESPN3.

Niagara scorched the Demons in the second half, shooting 67 percent, including 80 percent (8-for-10) from behind the arc, en route to its most points in a half since dropping 63 on St. Bonaventure in the second half of a 111-75 win on Dec. 21, 2004.

Five Purple Eagles scored in double figures for the third time.

Against the Southland Conference
• Niagara is 2-0 all-time against the Southland Conference.
• The Purple Eagles defeated Northwestern State last season and Sam Houston State in 2011.

• Niagara's win over Northwestern State last season was in the final edition of the BracketBusters series.
