Volleyball Swept By MAAC-Leading Fairfield

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles fell to conference-leading Fairfield, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17, on Saturday.

Fairfield (16-12, 13-4 MAAC) used its experience and depth to maneuver past a pesky Niagara (3-25, 2-15 MAAC) squad in straight sets. The Purple Eagles challenged the co-league leaders before eventually falling. Niagara jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the opening set, but Fairfield rallied to take a 15-14 lead en route to winning the first set 25-20.

The Stags led 16-10 in the second set before NU climbed back into the match. Melissa McGwin had consecutive blocks to cut the score to 17-15 and back-to-back aces by Emily Hopkins brought Niagara to 20-18. Though, Fairfield ended the set on a 5-1 spurt.Fairfield would put away the match in three sets with a strong third set.

Amanda Sedore led Niagara with 10 kills in the match for her 16th double-digit kills match of the season. 

The Purple Eagles will conclude their season on Sunday against Quinnipiac at 1 p.m.
