NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – For the second time this season, the Niagara Purple Eagles were edged in five sets by the Saint Peter's Peacocks, 25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 19-17, on Saturday.
Amanda Sedore's career-high 21 kills and .367 hitting percentage led the match as she notched her fourth career double-double. She was joined by Alex Stone and Melissa McGwin in double-digit kills with 14 and 13, respectively. Logan Rae also set a new career-mark with 48 assists.
All five sets were tightly contested. After dropping the first set, Niagara (2-20, 1-10 MAAC) won the next two sets to take a 2-1 lead. Saint Peter's (4-22, 2-10 MAAC) held off the Purple Eagles in the fourth set, 25-21, to force the fifth set. Niagara was serving at 14-12 when SPU tied the game at 14-14. The Purple Eagles had three more occasions to grab the win, but the Peacocks tied the score each time. Saint Peter's closed out the match with consecutive kills.
Niagara returns to the court on Sunday to host Rider at 1 p.m.
