Niagara Hosts Canisius in Battle of the Bridge Contest

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Battle of the Bridge series will continue on Wednesday, Oct. 2 as the Niagara women's soccer team hosts the Canisius Golden Griffins at Niagara Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Purple Eagles 101
The Purple and White captured its first conference win of the season on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the Manhattan Jaspers.  The win pushed Niagara to a 1-2 MAAC record, and a 2-9 overall mark. 

Six goals have been netted by Breanna Catipovic for 12 points, while Catherine Meyer leads the team with four assists.  Meyer, along with Haillie Price and Jami Petersen has also tallied goals for the Purple Eagles.

Claire Feiertag continues to be the go-to goalkeeper for Niagara as the sophomore has stopped 47 saves so far this season for a 1.66 goals-against average and a .746 save percentage.

Scouting Canisius
The Griffs enter the contest coming off a 2-1 loss to Monmouth to drop to 3-7-1 overall, and 1-1-0 in league action.

Senior forward Brianna Smith leads the team with 13 points off six goals and an assist.  Senior midfielder Kelly McMahon and junior forward Mallory Illsley have combined for six goals so far this season.  Illsley has nine points total (3-3-9), while McMahon has eight points (3-2-8). 

Megan Tock has played almost every minute in net for Canisius, sporting a 1.75 goals-against average and a .778  save percentage.  She also has two shutouts on the season.

All-Time vs. the Golden Griffins
Niagara and Canisius have met 34 times in the all-time series, with the Griffs holding a 21-12-1 advantage.  The last time these two programs met was on Oct. 27, 2012 where the teams battled to a 2-2 draw.

Up Next for Niagara
Following Wednesday's game vs. Canisius, the Purple Eagles will take to the field against the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Jersey City, N.J.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
