RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles fell in four sets against (25-15, 18-25, 25-22, 25-17) the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday.
The defeat snaps Niagara’s three-match conference win streak and its six-match win streak versus Manhattan (9-8, 4-2 MAAC).
NU (6-9, 3-2 MAAC) dropped the first set 25-15. Manhattan was up 8-1 in the second set when the Purple Eagles charged back into the match. NU went on a 14-6 spurt to take the lead after a kill by
Ellen Senf and the Purple Eagles finished strongly taking the set 25-18.
Niagara had a 9-8 lead early in the third set before the Jaspers used an 11-3 run to take a brief command of the set. However, NU battled back with a run of its own to cut the lead to 23-21 but Manhattan took the set 25-22.
NU never led in the fourth set as the Jaspers pulled away from the Purple Eagles up 13-11.
Three Purple Eagles were in double-digit kills, led by
Kari Honomichl who had 11 and 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.
The Purple Eagles are back on the court on Sunday to face the Saint Peter’s Peacocks at 2 p.m.
