NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara volleyball team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17) win over the Loyola Greyhounds on Sunday to complete a home conference weekend sweep.
"I thought we played well today and this weekend," head coach
Dottie Porch said. "Today we were mentally ready to take on the challenge and we played well. I am excited to get back to practice and get ready for Syracuse."
After dropping the first set 25-17, Niagara (6-7, 3-1 MAAC) ran away in the match for its ninth straight win in the series.
NU trailed 7-3 to open the second set before it rallied back into the set with an 11-4 spurt. Loyola (8-6, 1-2 MAAC) was held to its lowest hitting percentage of the match (.065) as the Purple Eagles pulled away with a 25-21 second set win.
The Purple Eagles pounced early and often in the following two sets. NU started the third set with a 10-2 run en route to winning 25-19 and 15-3 run to begin a dominating fourth set.
Ellen Senf led NU with 10 kills while
Kari Honomichl and
Amanda Wilken each had nine kills.
Allison Reis led the match with 24 digs.
Niagara will step out of conference play in its next match when it faces Syracuse on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
