BOSTON – Niagara men’s basketball freshman sensation
Juan'ya Green has been named CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshman of the Year.
Green became the first freshman and second Purple Eagle in program history to earn Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Year honors this season. The nation’s second leading freshman scorer was third in the conference with 17.7 points per game, third in assists with 4.5 per game and led the conference in steals with 1.9 per game. Green was the only player in the MAAC, one of 18 players in the nation and one of three freshmen nationally to lead his team in all three categories.
Green set the school’s freshman single-season record in points (585), field goals made (188), free throws made (148) and steals (63) while also breaking the freshman single-game scoring record in a debut with 23 points on Nov. 14 and the single-game scoring mark with 35 points on Dec. 2.
