No. 17 Niagara Wraps Up 2012 Against Bowling Green

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The seventeenth-ranked Purple Eagles wrap up the year with a trip to Bowling Green, Ohio on Saturday, Dec. 29 for a non-conference match-up against the Falcons.  The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:05 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Purple Eagles closed out the first semester with a 2-2 draw against AHA opponent RIT on Dec. 12.  After falling behind by a pair of goals midway through the contest, Niagara battled back with two, late second period tallies to knot the game.  After a scoreless third period, the teams played into extra time, but neither could find the game-winner. 

Sophomore Isaac Kohls and junior Patrick Divjak each contributed a goal, while goalie Carsen Chubak pushed aside 19 Tiger shots to improve his record to 10-1-4 on the season. 
 
Twelve-Game Unbeaten Streak
NU is currently on a 12-game unbeaten streak, dating back to a 3-3 draw over Michigan State on Oct. 20.  Niagara currently holds the longest unbeaten streak in the nation.  The team has gone 9-0-3 in its last 12 contests.

The 12-game unbeaten streak is the longest such streak for the Purps since last season, when NU had a seven-game unbeaten streak (7-0-0).
 
Scouting The Falcons
Bowling Green own a 3-10-4 overall record, and a 2-7-3 mark in CCHA play. 

The Falcons’ offense is led by Ryan Carpenter (5-5-10) and Adam Berkle (3-6-9), while Dan DeSalvo has contributed 10 helpers and a tally to lead the team in points. 

Goaltending duties has been split between Andrew Hammond and Tommy Burke.  Hammond has earned the nod in net 12 games thus far, for a .901 save percentage and a 3.21 goals-against average.
 
Last Battle of the Birds
The Purps started the 2012-13 campaign with a battle against the Falcons (Oct. 6).  NU came from behind in the final seconds of the contest to come out with a 2-2 draw. 

Chris Lochner picked up the game-tying goal, while Rocky Gruttadauria earned his first point as a Purple Eagle with the team’s initial tally. 
 
Up Next for the Purps
Niagara starts the second half of the schedule with a bout against Air Force on Saturday, Jan. 5, before beginning a five-game roadtrip that includes two home series against AIT and Holy Cross.
