BOWLING GREEN, OHIO - A corner kick by senior
Laura Kimoto in the ninth minute of the first overtime period capped a furious comeback for the Niagara women's soccer team (1-3-0), defeating the host Bowling Green Falcons (1-4-0) 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Tied at one late in the first overtime session, Niagara won just its second corner kick of the contest, sending Kimoto to take it. Kimoto's long ball ended up behind Falcon goalkeeper Becca Ison in the 99th minute, giving the Purple Eagles their first victory of the season.
The stage was set for the epic finish in the 62nd minute, when freshman
Courtney Pierce ripped a shot from 20 yards out that beat Ison to tie the game.
Bowling Green carried play for much of the first half, finally resulting in a 1-0 lead for the host school, when Alyssa Zuccaro headed the ball of a free kick past senior Purple Eagle netminder
Gabrielle Wilson.
Wilson made five saves in picking up her first collegiate win.
Niagara is back in action on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m., when they host IPFW in its home opener.
