NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara volleyball team (2-2) will be headed to its second in-season tournament of the year this coming weekend in the 2011 Cornell Tournament, where it will play UTEP (4-0), American (1-2), Delaware State (0-0) and the host Big Red (0-0).
The Purple Eagles will be looking for their first-ever wins over American, Cornell and UTEP this weekend, while looking for the team's third-ever win over Delaware State. Of the four teams in the Cornell Tournament, Niagara has only played Cornell once, while under the direction of head coach Susan Clements.
Niagara is led by senior and reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week Hannah Hedrick. Hedrick led Niagara in kills (50), kills per set (4.55) and hitting percentage (.315) en route to being named to the 2011 Blue-Gold Invitational All-Tournament team in the season-opening classic last weekend, hosted by the University of Toledo, where the Purple Eagles went 1-2.
The Purple Eagles defeated Binghamton on Wednesday in straight sets to even their record at 2-2. Sam Morgan had 22 digs in the three-set win, leaving her just 14 shy of becoming Niagara's career leader. Morgan also extended her NCAA-best double-digit hit streak to 100, which is every match she has played in since coming to Niagara.
