St. Francis Doubles Up Women's Soccer

Box Score

LORETTO, PA. - Two goals in a 10-minute span in the second half was enough to push the St. Francis (Pa.) Red Flash (2-2) to a 2-0 victory over the Niagara women's soccer team (0-2) on Sunday afternoon.

With the game scoreless in the 60th minute, Traci Flick beat freshman Mariah Hoy for the first goal of the game. In the 69th minute the Niagara deficit would increase to 2-0, as Tesa McKibben found the back of the net.

Niagara had a few chances within the first 20 minutes of action, with shots from Breanna Catipovic, Chelsea Mandrino and Julianne Viviano, but the game remained scoreless. A flurry of shots late in the opening half by Catipovic and Kayla Picanco nearly gave the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead, but Red Flash goalkeeper Brianna Butcher was up to the task.

Niagara nearly made it a one-goal game late in the second half, when Jen Kimoto rang a shot off the crossbar and Jamie Raepple's header was stopped.

The Purple Eagles are back in action on Friday, Sept. 2, when they take Toledo at 5:30 p.m.
