NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara women's soccer team will kick off the 2011 campaign on the road this weekend, visiting the state of Pennsylvania for matches against Robert Morris on Friday and St. Francis on Sunday.
The Purple Eagles will look to build off a 2010 season where the team went 10-6-1 and 5-4-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Back for one more year is Jen Kimoto, Niagara's lone representative on the Preseason All-MAAC team.
Junior Jamie Raepple, Niagara's leading scorer from 2010, will be back after notching six goals, two assists and 14 points a year ago.
The Purple Eagles will take on Robert Morris on Friday at 1 p.m., with the host Colonials already out to a 2-1 record, after defeating Syracuse and Eastern Washington, while dropping a 3-2 contest to Cleveland State. Niagara has compiled a 7-1 record in its last eight season-opening games, including a perfect 4-0 mark when opening the season on the road. Niagara has controlled the series against Robert Morris, currently owning an 11-2-1 all-time series lead.
On Sunday, the Purple Eagles will clash with the St. Francis Red Flash at 2 p.m. The Red Flash started the season with an 0-2 record, dropping one-goal contests to Duquesne and Marshall. Niagara and St. Francis haven't met since the 2004 season, with the Purple Eagles holding a 7-2-0 all-time series lead.
Following this weekend's games, the Purple Eagles will head to Ohio to take on Toledo and Bowling Green.
