The Niagara volleyball team swept the Marist Red Foxes, 25-18, 27-25, 25-17, to conclude its home schedule on Sunday.
The Purple Eagles (21-8, 15-1 MAAC) honored the winningest class in program history with a resounding sweep of Marist (11-15, 8-8 MAAC).
Kathy Bibler,
Lisa Bilich,
Hannah Hedrick,
Michelle James and
Sam Morgan were recognized in the pregame senior day ceremony. The quintet was a part of the youngest team in the nation in 2008 before claiming back-to-back MAAC championships, including the program’s first in 2009.
"Today was a great win to send the seniors out at home," head coach Susan Clements said. "We were able to not let yesterday's performance effect us."
Hedrick recorded her team-leading 15th double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Morgan led the match with 19 digs and extended her NCAA-best double-digits digs streak to 125 matches. Bibler led the match with a .571 hitting percentage and had nine kills and Bilich had two digs. The senior class went 30-7 at the Gallagher Center in the last three seasons and 25-2 in conference games during that span.
Niagara bounced back today after seeing four win streaks come to an end yesterday, including its 33-match conference win streak. The Purple Eagles biggest hurdle of the match was in the set when it rallied midway through the set and held off the Red Foxes to win, 27-25.
The Purple Eagles swatted a season-high 12 blocks, including six block assists by Bibler.
Niagara will visit Rider and Loyola next weekend as its looks to close out the regular season as the number one seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament.
