Volleyball Rolls In Regular Season Finale

Box Score

BALTIMORE – The Niagara volleyball team set a program record in regular season wins with 23 as it swept the Loyola Greyhounds, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15, on Sunday to wrap up the regular season.

The Purple Eagles (23-8, 17-1 MAAC) finished MAAC play with a 17-1 record for the second consecutive season, which ranks tied for second in conference history. Niagara, which secured its second straight regular-season title yesterday, will be the No. 1 seed in next week’s MAAC Tournament at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J.

“We had a really good day today,” head coach Susan Clements said. “Loyola played tough defense and really made us work to terminate. I feel good about our performance as we head into the MAACs.”

After pulling away in the opening set behind a 6-2 run, NU built early leads in the second and third sets en route to its eighth straight win against Loyola (8-23, 5-13 MAAC). Ellen Senf led the match with 13 kills and had a sparklingly .650 hitting percentage while committing no errors. Kari Honomichl had 11 kills to be the other Purple Eagle with double-digit kills. Sam Morgan tied a match-high with 15 digs to extend her double-digit digs streak to 127 matches. Nicole Bayer recorded her sixth double-double of the season with a match-high 30 assists and 10 digs.

Niagara will play on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Noon and its opponent will be decided at the conclusion of the late afternoon matches. The match will be streamed online on MAAC.TV and live stats provided by MAACSports.com.
