Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener To Bulls

Box Score

NIAGARA UNIV. N.Y. – Niagara women’s basketball began the 2011-12 season by dropping a close game to the University at Buffalo Bulls, 65-54, a game in which the Purple Eagles were able to make numerous runs but battled a rim that was unkind.

Niagara (0-1) saw its longest run of the night come in the second half when it was down 14 points with ten minutes left.  The Purple Eagles were able to cut the deficit to five points in the next three minutes but could never quite catch Buffalo (1-0) even though they limited the Bulls’ chances and held them to a 47% shooting percentage from the floor.

The Purple Eagles were led by Jess Flamm who scored a team-high twelve points.  Kayla Stroman registered 10 points in her first game back since the eighth game of last season. Lauren Gatto played her first game as a Purple Eagles
after redshirting last season and scored seven points and tied for the game-high with ten rebounds.

Two of Niagara’s freshman, Val McQuade and Meghan McGuinness, played 18 minutes in their first NCAA game.

The Purple Eagles have a week off before heading to Rock Hill, S.C. next weekend to play in the Winthrop Tournament where they will play three games in three days against Stetson, Winthrop, and Bradley.
