Starting Early...
Niagara’s game against Michigan is on Oct. 4, which is tied for the earliest start of a season for the Purple Eagles. Niagara started the 2002-03 season on Oct. 4, when they took part in the Lefty McFadden Invitational in Dayton, Ohio against Bowling Green.
Before Nearly Everyone Else
The Purple Eagles will begin their 2011-12 campaign before every team in the NCAA, except for Alabama-Huntsville and Lake Superior State. The Chargers and the Lakers kicked off the newest NCAA hockey season with a two-game series this past weekend.
Tough Schedule
Niagara takes on three teams earning a spot on the preseason rankings (USCHO/USA Today), playing No. 6/9 Michigan, No. 11 Union and No. 20 Cornell. Niagara also has games schedule against teams receiving votes, including Air Force, Holy Cross, Minnesota, Northeastern, Princeton and RIT.
