JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Niagara Purple Eagles won its 32nd consecutive match against MAAC opponents and their 14th overall with a sweep (25-19, 25-14, 25-12) over the winless Saint Peter’s Peahens on Saturday.
“We started flat, but picked it up in sets two and three,” head coach
Susan Clements said. “We did a great job of maintaining ball control when the rallies became long.”
Niagara (19-7, 13-0 MAAC) started slow, but finished strong en route to picking up consecutive wins at Saint Peter’s (0-25, 0-12 MAAC) since the 2005 and 2007 seasons. NU used a balance attack on offense with five players recording at least six kills, led by
Kari Honomichl’s match-high 11 kills.
The Purple Eagles opened the second set on an 8-1 run and finished with a match-high .435 hitting percentage. Niagara had 13 kills while committing only one error in the third set. Defensively, the Purple Eagles held the Peacocks to .042 and .056 hitting percentage in the second and third sets, respectively.
Sam Morgan led the match with 15 digs to extend her NCAA-best double-digit digs streak to 122 matches.
Niagara wraps up this weekend’s road trip at Manhattan at 2 p.m.
