Live Stats

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - With the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship Tournament in its sights, the Niagara women's soccer team (6-9-1; 4-2-1 MAAC) is preparing for a huge home weekend, hosting Iona and Fairfield in a pair of critical conference games.

The Purple Eagles have 13 points and are currently tied for second place with Iona, Niagara's opponent at 7:30 pm on Friday. Niagara controls its own destiny, as a weekend sweep puts the Purple Eagles into the MAAC Tournament.

Sunday's Senior Day match against Fairfield at noon could determine who makes the 2011 MAAC Tournament. Fairfield is currently tied with Canisius for fourth place with 11 points and will take on the Golden Griffins on Friday night.

Niagara could also clinch a spot into the 2011 MAAC Tournament as early as Friday, with a win over Iona and a tie game between Fairfield and Canisius.

Niagara is led by sophomore Breanna Catipovic, who has scored six goals, an assist and 13 points so far this season. Fellow sophomore Kayla Picanco has also been strong for Niagara, scoring five goals and an assist for 11 points, while freshman Catherine Meyer has netted two goals, three assists for seven points.
