NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - Winners of four of its last five games, the Niagara women's soccer team (6-8-0; 4-1-0 MAAC) will hit the road for a very important Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekend series, visiting first-place Marist and Siena.
Niagara is fresh off of a 1-0 defeat of its cross-town rival Canisius Golden Griffins, improving its record against its foes to 9-1-1 in the last 11 contests. Leading scorer sophomore
Breanna Catipovic launched her sixth goal of the season to push the Purple Eagles past the Golden Griffins. Catipovic has scored a goal in her last three contests and a goal in four of her last five games.
The Purple Eagles also are getting solid play out of sophomore
Kayla Picanco (four goals, one assist and nine points) and freshman
Catherine Meyer (two goals, three assists, seven points). Defensively, reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
Gabrielle Wilson has pitched a clean sheet in two of her last three games, earning a 1.00 goals-against average and a .857 save percentage during that span.
On Friday night, Niagara will visit Marist (10-5-0; 5-1-0 MAAC) for a game between the top two teams in the MAAC. On Sunday, the Purple Eagles will finish the road portion of the regular season against the Siena Saints (7-6-1; 2-3-1 MAAC), who enters the weekend in a tie for sixth place in the conference with Rider (9-4-3; 2-2-1 MAAC) and Fairfield (4-6-4; 2-2-1 MAAC).
Following this weekend's games, the Purple Eagles return home for the team's final two home games of the regular season, against Iona and Fairfield.
