NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. –The Niagara volleyball team won its 24th straight match against MAAC opposition with a resounding straight set win over the Saint Peter’s, 25-12, 25-15, 25-13, on Sunday.
Niagara (11-7, 5-0 MAAC) made quick work of Saint Peter’s (0-17, 0-6 MAAC) as it extended its home winning streak to 13 matches and its conference home winning streak to 19 matches. The Purple Eagles have also reeled off five straight while the Peahens remain winless on the season.
“Today we really wanted to focus on execution and our side of the floor,” head coach Susan Clements said. “It was great to see Amanda (Wilken) step up and really take the match over.”
Niagara held SPC to a negative hitting percentage (-.048) for the match while NU had a .295 hitting percentage for its third best percentage of the season. Niagara set the tone in the first set with a match-high .355 hitting percentage en route to taking the first set, 25-12. In the second set, NU used a 5-1 run midway through the stanza to create separation for a 25-15 second set win. In the third set, the Purple Eagles forced 11 SPC errors and cruised to a 25-13 win.
Kari Honomichl (Petersburg, Mich.) and
Amanda Wilken (Cincinnati, Ohio) each had a match-high 10 kills; Honomichl recorded 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Sam Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the match with 14 digs to extend her double-digit digs streak to 114 matches.
Hannah Hedrick (Cincinnati, Ohio) added eight kills and 10 digs and
Kathy Bibler (Bowling Green, Ohio) and
Ellen Senf (St. Paul, Minn.) contributed to the offense with seven and six kills, respectively.
The Purple Eagles are on the road next weekend with matches versus Marist on Saturday and Siena on Sunday.
